You Don’t Need More Time. You Need to Understand Your Capacity.

Capacity is about so much more than how many hours you have in your day. You can have time available and still not have the mental, emotional or physical capacity to do what you planned. Yet in business and life, we often build our expectations around what we think we should be able to manage rather than what we can realistically carry. In this practical and reflective masterclass, Rachel will explore what capacity actually means, what affects it, and how understanding your own capacity can change the way you approach your wellbeing, workload and business. We’ll look at the difference between time and capacity, recognise the things quietly consuming our energy, and explore how to make decisions based on the capacity we actually have rather than constantly pushing ourselves to do more. This isn’t about lowering your ambitions or doing less for the sake of it. It’s about understanding yourself well enough to use your energy where it matters and build a way of working that you can actually sustain.

About this event

Have you ever looked at your calendar, seen a few free hours and thought, “I should be able to get all of that done today”… only to discover that having the time and having the capacity are two very different things? We often plan our businesses, workloads and lives around time. We count the hours available, fill the gaps and assume that if something technically fits, we should be able to do it. But capacity doesn’t work like that. Our capacity is influenced by our physical energy, mental load, emotional demands, stress, family responsibilities, health, decision-making, the type of work we are doing and everything else we are carrying at that point in our lives. In this interactive masterclass, Rachel Smith, founder of The Educators Well, will explore what it means to understand and work with your actual capacity rather than continually measuring yourself against what you think you should be able to achieve. Drawing on her professional work in wellbeing, mentoring and education, alongside her own experience of having to completely rethink capacity following a significant injury, Rachel will unpack the difference between time and capacity and why recognising that difference can change the way we approach both wellbeing and work. Together, we’ll explore the different things that add to and draw from your capacity, recognise some of the hidden demands you may not currently be accounting for, and consider whether the expectations you are placing on yourself actually match what you have available. You’ll also have the opportunity to map your own capacity and think practically about where your energy is currently going. Rather than simply asking, “How can I fit more in?”, we’ll explore better questions: What actually matters right now? What requires my best capacity? What is taking more from me than I realise? What can change? This is not a masterclass about becoming more productive, squeezing more into your day or finding another perfect routine to follow. It’s about developing a more realistic understanding of yourself and recognising that sustainable success requires us to work with the capacity we actually have, not the capacity we wish we had. You’ll leave with a clearer understanding of your own capacity, practical ways to recognise when it is being stretched, and a different lens for making decisions about your wellbeing, workload and business. Because sometimes the answer isn’t better time management. Sometimes we need to understand what we are actually carrying.
